The Colgate-Palmolive Company generously provides funding for trainees to conduct 10 week summer research projects focused on pigment cell biology with PASPCR supervisors. We are excited to introduce you to this year’s interns, Besan Alhaj and Elvin Ng-Young-Lim! Trainees, we hope you have had an exciting summer!
Besan Alhaj
Besan Alhaj is a Biochemistry student at Arcadia University with a passion for biomedical research. Originally from Palestine, she is inspired by the resilience and perseverance of her community, which motivates her to pursue her academic and professional goals. She is especially interested in cancer metabolism. Outside of academics, she enjoys baking and painting. She aspires to work in a pharmaceutical industry, developing therapies that improve lives. Through this opportunity, she will work with Dr. Casey Stefanski at Thomas Jefferson University to help achieve that goal.
Elvin Ng-Young-Lim
Elvin Ng-Young-Lim just completed his second year at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver Canada, studying Cellular, Anatomical and Physiological Sciences. His passion for medicine and research is rooted in a desire to better understand disease and improve the lives of patients and their families. Having experienced the loss of his father to cancer, Elvin developed a deep passion for studying cancer and understanding the biological mechanisms that drive disease. He hopes to pursue a future where he can contribute to both patient care and scientific discovery. Outside of the laboratory, Elvin enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, going hiking, making videos, and finding ways to connect with and support his community. Elvin is working with Dr. Catherine Van Raamsdonk.
