The Pan American Society for Pigment Cell Research (PASPCR) invites applications from PASPCR members to support a summer research project to be performed by a high school student or first- or second-year college student in your lab. Postdoctoral fellows and senior graduate students can also apply if they provide a letter of consent from their PI. The Colgate-Palmolive Company has generously provided funding for two students from underrepresented groups in STEM to conduct an 8-10-week summer research project focused on pigment cell biology. Underrepresentation may include being a first‑generation college student, experiencing financial hardship, or facing other substantial barriers in their educational journey.
The goal of these fellowships is to expand research opportunities for under-represented students at an early stage in their education so that they develop an interest in research and become the next generation of scientists. Each recipient will receive up to $5,000 to support a summer stipend and lab supplies. Please be aware that many institutions require going through their Grants Office before submission. All applicants must be current PASPCR members in good standing.
Applications will be accepted until April 12, 2026 and awards will be announced in early May.
Your application should include:
- A description of the research including the overall goal of the research project and the activities to be performed by the student.
- Description of student or if not yet identified, describe how you will identify an eligible student for the research project. Include in your description, how the student meets the eligibility criteria for this fellowship.
- Mentorship plan for the student.
- Experience and/or commitment to mentoring early career students.
- A budget outlining the amount requested for the student stipend and the funds allocated for research costs. The majority of the fellowship funds (80%) should be allocated to support the student’s stipend, with up to 20% available for supplies or other research‑related costs.
- CV or Biosketch of the mentor.
