Meet the 2025 Summer Interns!

The Colgate-Palmolive Company generously provides funding for trainees from underrepresented minority groups to conduct 10 week summer research projects focused on pigment cell biology with PASPCR supervisors. We are excited to introduce you to this year’s interns, Zuly Dannae Martínez García, Caroline Mulmba and Camila Sanchez! Trainees, we hope you have a exciting summer!

Zuly Dannae Martínez García is a student at Universidad Veracruzana. She is a first-generation college student, pursuing her dream of becoming a physician-scientist. Zuly’s story began in Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo, an indigenous land full of Otomi traditions and persistent dreams. She has been inspired by her single mother who has devoted her life to working tirelessly to provide opportunities she herself never had. Zuly wears the white coat not only to heal, but also to generate knowledge that transforms medicine. She aspires to be an example for other young women, demonstrating that no dream is too big. Zuly will work with Dr. Christian Molina-Aguilar and Dr. Daniela Robles-Espinoza.

Caroline Mulmba is going into her second year at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She is majoring in biochemistry, and her goal is to become an oncologist in the future. She is interning to learn more about cancer and refine her laboratory technique. In her free time, she enjoys playing the cello, being outdoors, and watching medical dramas with her family. Caroline is working with Dr. Christin Burd.

Camila Sanchez is a rising senior in Camas High School. She is interning this summer to learn more about the process behind conducting biology research as a way to see if she’d like to pursue something research related in the future. Her interests lay somewhat in the medical field with an interest in virology, any kind of disease research or epidemiology. In her free time, Camila likes to go on runs with her friend and play tennis. Camila also enjoys cooking, volunteering at a hospital and spending time with her four chihuahuas and two turtles. Camilla is working with co-mentor, Lionel Marks, in Dr. Cynthia Cooper’s lab.
